In the state of North Carolina, the office of the Sheriff is responsible for maintaining the safety and security of the courts. A Deputy is assigned daily to a specific judge and/or court. A deputy provides essential security functions to maintain order and to provide for the personal safety and security of judicial personnel, jurors, attorneys and the public in courtrooms and adjacent areas. Deputies are responsible for the care, control and movement of juries during jury trials. Deputies also respond to inquiries, complaints, or requests from the public, attorneys and jurors, providing information within the scope of knowledge and authority.
